Numbat Mug

At the shop we've become really batty for numbats! You can just imagine our delight when we pulled these guys out of the kiln. Anyone else out there share our affection for these critters? If you do, nab yourself one at our shop or come to Perth Upmarket on Sunday 8th September. This is a limited run on Japan made mugs so get in quick!

Installation of our window mural for Aspects, Kings Park

This years theme for our mural was "50 years of flower power" a celebration of the Kings Park Wildflower Festival. We wanted to create a retro but modern design. As usual Ian and Adam successfully completed the jigsaw puzzle of elements that make up this layered design.

To see the finished installation you'll have to take a trip up to Aspects in Kings Park, Perth.

A new adventure - a visit to Stoke-on-Trent

These mugs coming to you soon!
We thought we'd share a bit of our recent adventure overseas. As you are aware we make most of our products in house with the exception of the T-shirts. However we have always had quite a passion for ceramics (and an extensive collection of retro pieces). We tried to find manufacturers of quality fine bone china in Perth but alas we couldn't find anyone. We are not quite at the the scale of making our own ceramics just yet so we took a visit to Stoke-on-trent, the home of fine bone china.

We have our own kiln and decal making facilities in our studio so we will be getting this factory in Stoke-on-trent to make our blanks for us and we will decorate them here in Perth. We thought you'd like to see inside the factory as much as we did! They are one of the few remaining factories in Stoke that still manufacture in the UK. Although their will be a few kms to get them to Perth, we felt we really wanted to be part of this ongoing history.

We also visited the Potteries Museum and came across this plate that made us thought of our very own mining-based country :)

Kyilla Community Farmers Market - Starts 8th June

This is good news. We often liken ourselves to the slow food movement - shopping local, letting things grow slowly and with care. I liken the way we make products a bit like a 48hour slow cooked lamb (someone recently told me they'd eaten this and I haven't stopped thinking about it!).

Anyone who knows us will know that we love good food. We'll be supporting this new farmers market and buying lots of tasty produce.... yum can't wait!

A happy workshop

This is what we like to see... happy people in the workshop! It's not hard to take a photo of our chief sewing expert Claire... she is always smiling. Which makes us happy too! You can see our cutting table, tunnel dryer (for fixing textile printing ink) and just in the background our rotary screen printing press. Most of our equipment is on castors so we can move it around in our limited space.

Workshop Viewing - new lampbases

Look at these lovely lampbases! Each one is different as most are turned from reclaimed timber posts. One of these in the centre (No.5 counting from the left) is a sheoak stand and it's very unusual due to its size. Sheoak grows with small branches and trunk so you don't often find pieces this large. It has a beautiful wavy grain.  We oil the wood with an organic orange oil which makes it feel silky and brings out the grain.
